Alternative Education for Children Who Are Facing Challenges With School

Orchard Thrive provides calm, structured Alternative Education Provision for children and young people aged 4–17 who are experiencing barriers to engaging in education.

We help young people feel safe, rebuild confidence, and re-engage with learning through personalised education, therapeutic support and practical life skills development.

Working closely with schools, local authorities, multi-agency professionals and families, we provide flexible support for learners who may be struggling due to:

• Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
• Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA)
• Anxiety or mental health needs
• Behavioural or emotional challenges

• Social communication differences
• Medical needs or ill-health
• Risk of exclusion or following exclusion
• Low attendance or disengagement from learning

For over 20 years, our team has supported foster children and young people with complex needs, achieving a 100% success rate in reintegrating learners back into education.

A Therapeutic and Personalised Approach

At Orchard Thrive, every child and young person is supported through individualised 1:1 programmes designed around their needs, strengths and aspirations.

Our approach focuses on:

  • Building safe, trusting relationships
  • Supporting emotional wellbeing and regulation
  • Re-establishing engagement with learning
  • Developing life skills and independence
  • Supporting successful reintegration into education

We recognise that learning cannot happen without emotional safety, which is why our work integrates trauma-informed and attachment-aware practice across everything we do.

Provision is typically delivered in 3 hour blocks, with support available for up to three days per week depending on the learner’s needs.

Placements can be arranged:

  • Short-term support (1+ day)
  • Termly
